I warmly welcome you to the School for Development Studies (SDS), one of the six schools/faculties of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, at the University of Cape Coast. The core mandate of SDS is to undertake research in the field of development studies and to transfer the knowledge generated for equitable and sustainable transformation. The School, comprising four departments, responds effectively to its mandate through innovative research and post graduate studies.
Our academic staff are well known for creating an intellectually stimulating space for nurturing the research potential of all students. We achieve this by adopting interactive approaches to learning and interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives; emphasizing the philosophical foundations that underpin social reality and drive public policy, as well as the epistemological basis for evaluating knowledge claims.
Our research, which is “critical’, gender mainstreamed and have a strong focus on equity, rights and social justice perspectives, cluster around labour and work issues, participatory governance, poverty and development economics, sustainable environment, peace and security and rural development. SDS remains an important academic space for spearheading development studies in Ghana and in the West African Sub-Region. The research and study possibilities at SDS are open to you and I encourage you to join our research community.
Here at SDS, you will surely find the assistance you need to reach your fullest potential.
